Do you counsel patients on the risk of dementia following androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer?
Two retrospective studies from Stanford showed that patients who received ADT had an increased risk of dementia and Alzheimer's. Is this finding significant enough to discuss with patients prior to starting ADT? If so, how do you approach this discussion?

Yes, I do counsel men on this risk. The absolute risk increase appears low (<1-2%) at 5 years, but the relative risk increase (about 2-fold) is concerning, and appears to be dose/duration related, suggesting a causal relationship. Since we do not understand the causes of Alzheimer's disease or ...
