The recent Endocrine Society Guideline on Vitamin D no longer recommends testing for vitamin D status unless there are unusual circumstances. Measuring 25 OH vitamin D in truly healthy population of older patients is not indicated. As a reminder, people who live in congregate living housing or long term care facilities should have levels measured. Also check levels in people with malabsorption syndromes.
