I agree with @Mithu Maheswaranathan’s excellent and detailed response with references. At NYU, we see no need for G6PD testing in patients starting hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine. There is a pharmacological explanation in that these are 4 aminoquinolones and it is the 8 aminoquinolones, suc...

We usually check CBC within 4 weeks of starting HCQ. Routine G6PD not done, however, if there is history of hemolytic anemia in the past then the test is ordered.
