What lab monitoring and frequency do you recommend in an otherwise healthy young patient on biologics for psoriasis?
With no high-risk exposure do you repeat quant gold?
Answer from: at Academic Institution
Yearly QuantGold testing in low risk patients has been shown to be unnecessary and actually carries a significantly higher risk of false positive than true positive. Unfortunately, many insurers still require yearly testing.

I only do quantiferon gold yearly. Even though most of the new biologics' mechanism of action does not seem to place patients at risk for TB reactivation, most of the clinical trials repeated it so it actually may be unknown.

I generally do a yearly quant gold, although it is interesting that Rheumatology does not always do this testing. If patients have labs with their PCP, I ask them to bring me a CBC and CMP once per year as well.
I also do the yearly quant gold - but this is definitely insurance-driven.
Young is in the eye of the beholder- but do routinely do at least fasting glucose and lipid screening - annually at 35. Before that is every 3 years if normal.
Most of my patients are getting these and CBC and CMP by PCPs.
