When is it appropriate to use the 10mg-100mg Carbidopa/Levodopa formulation?
Is there a clinical scenario in which using the 10mg/100mg Carbidopa/Levodopa formulation is preferred to or more beneficial than using the more commonly prescribed 25mg/100mg formulation?
Answer from: at Academic Institution
The lower dose of carbidopa means that it does not provide a sufficient amount of peripheral dopa decarboxylase inhibition (75 mg is required) especially if prescribed with the TID schedule. 25/100 is the minimal dose that should be used. I don’t see any role for the 10/100.

According to UpToDate it may be more effective to titrate with a tablet that has a carbidopa: levodopa ratio of 1:10 which can allow for better symptom control without exceeding the usual maximum dosage of carbidopa (typically 200mg/day). In my practice, I will generally change to sinemet 10/100mg t...
