In a patient with severe factor XII deficiency with a baseline prolonged PTT, what is the best method to monitor their ACT or heparin levels when on cardiopulmonary bypass?

Generally, the baseline ACT may or may not be prolonged, so one should be obtained pre-operatively. The surest way to monitor is with the heparin anti-Xa assay.
